Welcome to International Workshop on Chirality in Condensed Matter Physics (CCMP2025) !
Chirality, the asymmetry between a structure and its mirror image, plays a crucial role across various scientific fields, including physics, chemistry, and biology. It preserves time-reversal symmetry but breaks all mirror symmetries. This concept also extends to elementary particles and quasiparticles as a quantum property. For instance, lattice vibrations can carry pseudo-angular momentum as chiral phonons. Additionally, chiral systems with broken mirror symmetry generally contain intriguing low-energy excitations with well-defined chirality. While structural chirality is known to exist in many molecular systems, such as DNA, the chiral structures in spin or magnetic systems have recently attracted numerous attention, leading to the discovery of intriguing transport and optical phenomena. More broadly, non-collinear helical spin systems and altermagnetic systems with broken PT symmetry can also be considered as branches of chiral systems, resulting in pronounced spin splitting effects in momentum space without the inclusion of relativistic spin-orbit coupling. These new findings open up new possibilities for spin-based electronic device applications. The conference, "Chirality in Condensed Matter Physics,” aims to focus on the fundamental physical aspects of chirality in quantum materials, including but not limited to the topics listed below.
- Growth and characterization of novel chiral materials.
- Spectroscopic investigations of chiral excitations.
- Theory and first-principles calculations on chirality.
- Altermagnetism
- Spin splitting effects and spin transport in helical spin and altermagnetic systems.
