The 2026 Quantum Materials Physics Symposium: Emerging Phenomena in Two-Dimensional Systems (QMPS2026-EP2D) is organized in response to the rapid progress in the study of two-dimensional (2D) systems, driven by advances in material synthesis, experimental techniques, and theoretical approaches. In recent years, 2D systems have emerged as a fertile platform for exploring novel physics, ranging from correlated electrons, many-body effects, topological phases, twisted electronics, to ultrafast phenomena, with a wealth of potential implications for future electronic and quantum technologies.
Against this backdrop, this three-day symposium, to be held at the Institute of Physics, Academia Sinica (IoP, AS) in Taipei from August 12 to 14, 2026, aims to bring together active researchers working on the physics of 2D systems to present and discuss their latest findings. With a primary focus on, though not exclusively limited to, correlated and topological phenomena, twisted electronics, and ultrafast dynamics in 2D materials, the symposium seeks to foster in-depth exchanges between experimental and theoretical approaches, stimulate new ideas for future investigations, and provide a platform for researchers and students to engage with cutting-edge developments at the forefront of this rapidly evolving field.
This symposium represents the third edition of the Quantum Materials Physics Symposium series, initiated at the IoP, AS following the COVID-19 pandemic. Previous events include:
